Hi,

I am just getting used to sailing a Vareo and have found that when I hike out the toestraps get in the way of the main sheet running into the pulley. This has created some hairy moments when a gust comes through and I can't release the main when flat out. Any suggestions?

David

Hi David, had that in the past as well, my two cents; too much slack on the rope which holds your strap? Have you tried to tighten it?

Hi David,

I noted this down when I read it and looked at my boat the next time we had some wind!.  There are two loops either side of the centreboard to hold the straps down, these need to be tight enough to stop the problem you describe.
If you have these loose so that you can get your toes under, then maybe be the problem is with the bungy to hold the straps up; My boat has a modification where holes have been drilled in the grap rail, and bungy to the toe straps pulls them away from the hull. This gives me confidence that I can always get my toes under without looking, despite having the toe straps very tight and quite close to the hull.

Hope this Helps
Kevin W.
